Children, Teacher Hospitalized in Texas 18 Wheeler Wreck

More than twenty people, most of them young children were hospitalized when their school bus was involved in a Texas 18 wheeler wreck near Beaumont. A teacher and 23 children were sent to local hospitals after their school bus struck a tractor trailer and a pickup truck. A spokesperson for the Beaumont Independent School District told local reporters that one student was airlifted to a trauma center in Houston with severe injuries.

The Texas 18 wheeler wreck occurred on the afternoon of April 5, as four teachers and 44 fourth-graders from the Charlton-Pollard Elementary School were returning from a filed trip to the Big Thicket. The accident happened on US 69 in Lumberton, less than 15 miles north of Beaumont. Police on the scene told local reporters that the bus struck the back of the 18 wheeler, collided with a pickup truck, then rolled into the drainage ditch on the opposite side of the freeway.

Track Coach Dies in Texas 18 Wheeler Wreck
A high school track coach and a school bus driver lost their lives in an East Texas 18 wheeler wreck last month. A report from the Texas Department of Public Safety showed that a tractor trailer swerved into oncoming traffic and struck a school bus for the Mount Pleasant High School boys’ track team. The accident also injured 18 students as they were returning from a track meet in Paris, Texas.

The Texas 18 wheeler wreck occurred when the tractor trailer was traveling in the northbound lanes of US 271, about 20 miles north of Mount Pleasant. The school bus was traveling in the southbound lanes when the truck steered into opposing traffic. Three coaches and 18 out of the 32 students were injured, while one coach and one student were airlifted to a Tyler hospital in serious condition. The 18 wheeler driver was also killed in the crash.

Woodlands Woman Dies in Polk County Texas 18 Wheeler Wreck
A 21-year-old woman from The Woodlands lost her life in a Texas 18 wheeler wreck last week. Marley Chapla, a student at Stephen F. Austin State University, was killed when her car collided with a tractor trailer in Polk County. A preliminary investigation report revealed that the tractor trailer was pulling off of Highway 59 and onto State Loop 116 when its rear tires struck Ms. Chapla’s car. The truck driver was not injured in the accident. Police have yet to file charges against the driver.
