What Is CTE?

Our brains are the most powerful organ in our body, but it is also one of the most sensitive. One blow to the head can be enough to cause permanent damage, and several impacts is far worse. Chronic traumatic encephalopathy is believed to be caused by multiple blows or concussions sustained over an extended period of time.

CTE is often diagnosed in:

  • Boxers
  • Football players
  • Construction workers

As the brain is injured repeatedly, cell structures and tissues starts to break down. The degeneration causes an increase in a protein known as tau. How this buildup begins or why it occurs is not fully understood but scientific studies to link it to CTE and its symptoms.

CTE frequently causes:

  • Amnesia
  • Disorientation
  • Unclear thought processes
  • Manic aggression or depression
  • Dementia
  • Motor control issues

If you have been showing signs of any of the aforementioned symptoms but have not yet been diagnosed with CTE, we encourage you to see a medical physician as soon as possible, especially if you have an athletic background. CTE is notorious for not causing any noticeable or dramatic effects until years or even decades after the last head injury occurred.
